It is reported that the National Development and Research Commission has approved the construction of two port projects, one 0.3 million tonnes iron ore handling jetty in Bayuquan, Yingkou Port and another coal handling project in Xuzhou Port.
An official from NDRC said "The two projects all have received the official approvals from NDRC. The total investment will surpass CNY 1 billion and will take 2 to 3 years to construct. It is said the new jetty in Baiyuquan will be able to handle about 18 million tonnes of iron ore per year when finished. Yingkou Port now has one oil handling jetty with the annual handling capacity of 15 million tons.¡±
Insiders pointed out that Ports like Shanghai, Ningbo and Qingdao are now facing more pressure as iron ore imports increases, which leading to port congestions frequently and China is urgently need to build several news handling jetties.
NDRC also approved the first phrase construction of coal handling project in Xuzhou Port. It is said the new project will consist of 9 coal handling berths and 3 waiting berths, with the annual handling capacity of 14 million tons. Xuzhou Port is major transfer ports for the shipments of North China coal to South China
